We’ve got a whole suite of Premium SEO software here at photo SEO lab and one of my favourites is Ahrefs.
Ahrefs is a premium SEO tool that is used to crawl and audit websites. So it can provide a full technical SEO audit on your own website, and it can also provide valuable insights and information on your competitors.
We predominantly use it for competitor analysis and it’s really handy at the strategy stage.
So I’m just going to take a little moment to show you how we typically use this awesome bit of software.
Competitor Analysis Demo
I’ve added a wedding directory into the software and Ahrefs has already fully crawled the site. We’re using Hitched.co.uk as an example, in this video and Hitched as a site that ranks well in search for wedding industry queries. So, we know it’s a site that Google trusts and that must be getting traffic. So we can use this information to help us. build your own strategy, in terms of what content to create, what subjects are popular, what things might be relevant to our business that could also generate are some traffic.
There’s a couple of areas that we’re going to look at one is going to be the referring domains and just to explain the difference between backlinks and referring. Domains backlinks is a total number of backlinks, whereas referring domains means that’s a list of websites that link in.
So say we add a competitor to this, and we wanted to see what websites were linking to them. We could look at a full list and organize this based on domain rating and based on their Ahrefs rank and a whole bunch of other bits of information. And this could form part of our kind of Hit List in terms of people to network with to connect with and reach out to and collaborate with so that we could perhaps begin a link from them as well.
Often link building is about relationship building and networking with others in the community and really kind of improving your brand presence and a natural way that involves you connecting with other people. So links should be formed naturally rather than going and buying them or anything crazy like that. So that’s how we would use the referred domains list.
Organic keywords are space for some really kind of Juicy information. We can see here on the left, we’ve got just a list of lots of different keywords. We’ve got information about what countries, those keywords are kind of ranking them. We can see here, we’ve got the volume, and this is a kind of average monthly volume. So that’s going to vary a little bit.
We can also see the URL that actually ranks for that specific term. So say, for example, we worked in the wedding industry and we were wanting to provide some valuable information to our clients about a certain topic. It may be best man speech examples or, maybe we’re a band and we wanted to create some content around wedding songs or maybe we were a photographer and we wanted to just share some ideas around, maybe small wedding ideas, based on the recent events that have happened and then we can go through this information and look and see what the kind of monthly search. volume is also, what traffic that hitched is actually getting for this. And whether they are in a featured snippet or not. So this little logo here, a symbol rather, shows whether the appeared in feature to separate. And that’s really handy to know because that’s right at the top of the page. So we can see that that’s going to be influencing their traffic.
This is really helpful when you’re really thinking about what content to create and what is actually going to be interesting to your target clients.
If we can see that, all these pages have got over a thousand, visitors a month, then these pages have got information about subjects that are interesting to people.
So when we maybe have a look at our competitors and here whether that’s other wedding photographers or other studio photographers, we can have a look and see what traffic they’re getting and what content is potentially doing well or is getting kind of engagement and also what the search volume is.
When do we use Ahrefs?
We typically use their software at the beginning of projects as part of the overall strategy when we’re looking at planning and content, that’s really going to help raise brand awareness, and helping your content marketing efforts as well.
I hope this little guide is helpful and giving you an insight into how we use this, this software is accessible, within all of our SEO services, and clients have access for the full 12 months of the package. So, after we’ve done the initial work, they can request extra information and additional competitor analysis if they want some more data and we find that this makes a big difference in terms of creating strategies that are really going to help make a difference and improve traffic.
So check out the next video where I’ll be covering more premium SEO tools that we use to help our clients!
